Great American Smokeout®

Quitting smoking isn’t easy. It takes time. And a plan. You don’t have to stop smoking in one day. Start with day one. Let the Great American Smokeout event on the third Thursday in November be your day to start your journey toward a smoke-free life. You’ll be joining thousands of people who smoke across the country in taking an important step toward a healthier life and reducing your cancer risk. Plus, the American Cancer Society can help you access the resources and support you need to quit.

Quitting Smoking Starts With Day One

a professional athlete…. Sculpting a chiseled physique… Joining a pro golf tour…
Even quitting smoking. It’s a process. It takes time. Check out our PSA videos

Take Down Tobacco

Take Down Tobacco is a fresh take on Kick Butts Day — the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids annual day of action. The Take Down Tobacco program is a 365-day effort that culminates every spring with the Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action. 2022 marks the 27th anniversary of this program, and there have been many important victories since the first Kick Butts Day was held in 1996.

Over the past quarter century, the U.S. has made remarkable progress in doing just what the Kick Butts Day name describes: kicking butts. But even though youth smoking rates are on a downward trend and at an all-time low, skyrocketing youth e-cigarettes rates are reversing the progress we’ve made toward achieving the first tobacco-free generation. And of course, from cigarettes and cigars to smokeless tobacco to heat-not-burn cigarettes, the tobacco industry peddles a wide range of addictive and dangerous products that put kids at risk across the globe.

This year’s Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action will be held on April 1, 2022. There have been many important victories since the first Kick Butts Day was held in 1996.

Take Down Tobacco is a reflection of both how far we've come and how far we still need to go to achieve the first tobacco-free generation.

On April 1, 2022, the Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action, youth activists, educators, parents, health advocates and concerned citizens come together to organize events that:

  • Raise awareness of the problem of tobacco use in their community

  • Encourage youth to reject the tobacco industry’s deceptive marketing and stay tobacco-free

  • Urge elected officials to take action to protect kids from tobacco

Take Down Tobacco is a project of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Don’t be taken in by the E-cigarette fad. They are dangerous tobacco products addicting a new generation. Our generation is not a replacement generation #NotReplacements

No Menthol Sunday

NAATPN -
Almost half of African Americans would quit smoking if menthol cigarettes were banned.

About No Menthol Sunday 2022

Sunday | May 15, 2022

No Menthol Sunday is The Center for Black Health & Equity’s annual faith-based observance day. It is an opportunity to engage faith communities in tough conversations about how menthol and tobacco addiction have robbed us of community health for generations. The tobacco industry has stripped our community's finances, engaged in targeted unethical marketing, and attempted to dupe young people with flavors like spearmint and menthol. Their industry execs have once said that they don't smoke their own deadly products -- they reserve that right for "the young, the poor, the Black and stupid."

Those are fighting words.

Now, after a decades-long battle for health justice in tobacco control, we are embarking upon a major win. In 2022, we anticipate that the Food & Drug Administration will finally issue standard regulations that will prohibit the sale of tobacco products with any characterizing flavors like menthol. This is historic! Just as it was written in Isaiah 55:11, we are now seeing the fulfillment of what we had long set out to accomplish!

It's time for final round intensity.

While we expect total victory, we know we can also expect opposition from every side. That means we must prepare for a bare knuckle final fight to the finish. No longer will we stand for shallow arguments or the social systems that have perpetuated health disparities and kept tobacco use at status quo.

Faith communities can secure support within their congregations by ensuring they understand the benefits of this needed policy change. We've got to be bolder and more confident than ever in our efforts to raise awareness. This will require fearless determination and final round intensity.

Use No Menthol Sunday 2022 to trample the opposition. The No Menthol Sunday toolkit will equip participants with strategies and talking points to be bold in this final fight against tobacco. Decades of work are now coming to fruition and we must maintain momentum until it is accomplished. Don't be afraid to get in the ring, we've already won.

World No Tobacco Day

#TobaccoExposed

This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.

The harmful impact of the tobacco industry on the environment is vast and growing adding unnecessary pressure to our planet’s already scarce resources and fragile ecosystems.

Tobacco kills over 8 million people every year and destroys our environment, further harming human health, through the cultivation, production, distribution, consumption, and post-consumer waste.

Quitting tobacco (including vaping) improves the lives and health of you and those around you.
